France is well-known for its many tourist attractions, in particular, their museums. One new museum, however, is truly making waves. The Underwater Museum of Cannes is the newest tourist stop along the French Riviera. Created by British artist Jason deCaires Taylor, the six sculptures of the museum are made from ph-neutral cement and depict six locals in Cannes. According to Taylor and his team, the goal is to attract attention to the pollution being witnessed in the world’s oceans. By bringing tourists to the museum, Taylor hopes to raise awareness for underwater ecosystems and the damages being done by overtourism and pollution. Even before placing the sculptures, trash had to be removed first. According to Taylor, this is only his first underwater museum; he intends to create more.
