16 PRIVATE ISLANDS IN THE MALDIVES GO UP FOR SALE

The government of the Maldives recently announced that they are auctioning off 16 of their islands, which make up a chain of 1,190 islands in the Indian Ocean. These islands won’t be available for private buyers, however; instead, buyers must conditionally pledge that they will build resorts on the islands they purchase. Construction must commence within 36 months of the purchase, and such construction must be considerate of the beautiful island scenery and ecosystem. Applications were due by June 6, which means that hopeful applicants have also placed bids and are awaiting a response. Coming soon, the Maldives will feature a handful of beautiful new resorts that will no doubt have the best amenities found the world over.
