One thing is for sure, this is not your average Rolex. Otherwise known as the MilSub, this Rolex was designed as a special order for the British Military through the Ministry of Defense. The issue of the watch marks the first time Rolex created a watch that was specifically for military use. To construct this piece, watchmakers made the spring bars solid and used friction welding to ensure the spring bars stayed firmly in place. To enhance readability, the normal hands are replaced with sword hands made with tritium luminosity. One of the most interesting features of these watches is that there were often repaired with services watches, making them “tool watches” in the truest sense. It’s common to find damaged models due to their heavy use.
